From page 156 of the manual:

"Instant Style Selection
If you’ve created your own styles and built up a collection of style data on the User drive or external devices, you’ll soon have
many style files to select from—making it difficult to call up your favorite styles. This function lets you memorize the path of a
specific style to a specific STYLE button. Even if your data is scattered across the drive in a complex hierarchy of folders and
paths, you can instantly call up a specific file—no matter how deeply hidden—with a single button-press."

It would seem from this that the style will load with a single press of button.
But that does not seem to be the case. It apparently only saves a shortcut to the folder that the style is in, but doesn't actually load the style.
This, in my opinion, is not "Instant Style Selection" and cripples the feature.

Is this a bug? Is anybody else interested in the behavior I understood?

When you save a button as a shortcut it remembers the page, not a specific style. So when you press it you get back to that page.
You still have to select whatever style you want that is on the page to load it.

But I wish there was a way to have it load a particular style, if desired. For live situations when only 10 or so styles are required at a time, this would be great.

I don't want them to remove the current behavior - just update it.
It should work the same way shortcuts on a PC work. They can point to an entire folder, or to a single file.

It should depend on whether a style is actually selected in the folder navigated to.

If you want to change to a specific style at the touch of 1 button you can always arrange to do that via a Registration.

The programmable buttons appear to be for convenient access to pages of Styles when doing "homework" - for example building Registrations -rather than providing for quick changes during performance, where Regs may be regarded as the main resource.
